State budget cuts may affect work of basin authority

The West Tennessee River Basin Authority is bracing for potential cuts to its proposed 2009-10 budget. Basin Authority Executive Director David Salyers said he was told to prepare two suggested budget cuts. The Tier I reductions, totaling 7.74 percent of the agency's budget, are probably going to happen. The Tier II reductions, another 7.02 percent of the budget, might happen, he said...

Computers, tanker truck on wish list

Dyer County fire officials are seeking two grants this year: one to upgrade their computer network and another to buy a 2,000-gallon tanker truck. The Dyer County Commission's Fire Committee approved the measures Thursday morning. Dyer County Fire Chief James Medling said he has applied for a $10,500 Local Emergency Planning Committee grant to purchase two or three laptop computers, a projector and cases in which to carry them. ...
