County budget takes hit from flood, revenue drop

Creating the 2010-11 Dyer County budget isn't expected to be easy this year. Revenues are falling - and the recent flood is expected to make matters worse. Dyer County Mayor Richard Hill said the property assessor's office is working alongside the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the makeshift FEMA office in the Dyersburg Mall. Assessments on flooded homes and businesses are being adjusted as damage is reported. If structures are torn down, total tax revenues will decline...

Health Dept.: Exposure to floodwater does not carry tetanus risk

According to the Tennessee Department of Health, residents and emergency officials entering areas exposed to floodwater or debris have no immediate need to get a tetanus shot before recovery work begins.
