Newspaper executive dies unexpectedly in Thursday accident

Wally Lage, vice president and chief operating officer of Rust Communications, died Thursday night in Maine, after slipping off a wharf. He was 66. Lage was widely known in the newspaper industry. He was also very active in the community. Among many involvements, he was a longtime member of the Lions Club and the Saint Francis Medical Center board of directors. He served on boards of numerous newspaper organizations, and was a member of the Missouri Press Association Hall of Fame...

Half-day for city and county students Thursday; full day at DHS

Most students in schools throughout Dyer County are scheduled for a half-day of school on Thursday, Aug. 26. The schedule affects students in all schools in the Dyer County School System, as well as Dyersburg City School System students attending Dyersburg Primary School, Dyersburg Intermediate School and Dyersburg Middle School. Citizens fill room at budget hearing to vent frustrations

The largest room in the Dyer County Courthouse wasn't big enough to hold the citizens attending Friday's hearing on the 2010-11 budget proposal.
