City administrators in Dyersburg, Newbern earn certification

County planners OK shortening distance of shooting ranges from residences

The Dyer County Regional Planning Commission met on Thursday afternoon and unanimously voted to approve a new recommendation that shortens the distance a shooting range can be from a residence. The new recommendation reads as follows: "The base of all berms and all shooting lanes of any outdoor shooting range shall be a minimum of one thousand yards from the boundary of any residential uses, school, or nursery school as defined by this zoning resolution."...

Dyer County hit by heavy rains

Last night's thunderstorms swept across Dyer County bringing heavy rains while tornado sirens wailed through much of the early evening. There were no initial reports of any tornado damage in the county, despite the many warnings issued. Dyer County Fire Chief James Medling said his department didn't have to respond to any calls other than a woman reportedly being trapped in a storm shelter in the Jenkinsville area. ...
