Holice Powell Elementary School celebrated National Watermelon Day at lunchtime on Thursday. To kickoff National Watermelon Day, students were given a taste of trivia on the popular treat. Students learned that watermelon is a cousin to cucumbers, pumpkins and squash and the most-consumed melon in the United States. Dyer County tire generators still unable to dispose of tires

Tire generators continue to wait for the city and county to find a solution to waste tire disposal that accommodates all parties involved. After opting out of the waste tire grant in June, the city and county have been unable to find a compromise to allow the tire generators to begin disposing of tires in the landfill again. The county is waiting on the state to approve the tire grant paperwork and the city chooses not to reopen the landfill to tires until the paperwork has been approved...

Attempted murder case among 65 indictments handed down by grand jury

The Dyer County Grand Jury met this week and returned a total of 65 indictments with 25 of them being secret. Included in the indictments was Christopher Adam Purvis, 621 Sugg Ave., who was indicted for attempted first-degree murder. Memorial service to honor Vaughn on Saturday

Teacher indicted for sexual battery of a minor

A Dyersburg City School teacher has been arrested for felony sexual battery of a minor after he was indicted by the Dyer County Grand Jury.
