Bone marrow drive Sunday
(Local News ~ 12/03/11)
The Dyer County community has rallied around resident Chuck Walden after a recent diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia. Here, family members participate in a Light the Night walk in Nashville at the same time friends and family members gathered at Okeena Park to walk in Walden's honor. Sunday, Dec. 4, local residents have an opportunity to help others fight AML with a bone marrow drive in the Family Life Center of West Dyersburg Church of Christ from noon until 4 p.m. For Walden, the event is not about honoring him, it is about demonstrating love for your neighbor. 'Let's show the world how Dyersburg and Dyer County care for each other (with this) bone marrow drive honoring God,' said Walden, who asked a representative of the bone marrow registry what is deemed a successful bone marrow drive. 'She said 20 to 25 people. Let's show them that Dyer County can do much more than that. It is a very simple process, it is just swabbing your mouth.' No invasive procedures are associated with registering with Be the Match Registry, managed by the National Marrow Donor Program. For more information on requirements and procedures for bone marrow donations, visit www.BeTheMatch.org.
