Pilgrim Rest members deliver Christmas boxes to needy

Members of the Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church got together last week and delivered 70 Christmas boxes to needy families in the community. The boxes contained ingredients such as: fruits, flour, butter, rice, sugar, beans, potatoes, celery, bell peppers, and chicken. The church was able to increase its annual donation by 10 boxes from last year's 60 boxes. Fundraisers are held throughout the year in order for the church to make donations such as the Christmas boxes possible. This Christmas, the Pilgrim Rest Male Chorus was able to raise money by smoking hams and turkeys. From left: George Mitchell, Larry Williams, Pat McCreight, Pastor W.L. Disposal sites help cut down on illegal dumping

The holiday season usually brings a lot of social gatherings, a lot of presents and with it a lot of trash. According to the Clean Air Council, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting everyone's right to clean air, between Thanksgiving Day and New Year's Day an additional 1 million tons of trash will be produced each week. Beer-permit woes continue

The city of Dyersburg recently informed Neighborhood Market and Deli on Gordon Street that its beer permit was not valid because its business name had changed. Last week, another business owner in Dyersburg was informed that his beer permit was also not valid. This time the owner of H&S Market on Main Street, Mahmoud Suleiman, was instructed by the Dyersburg Police Department on Tuesday, Dec. 20 not to sell beer until he obtained a valid permit...

Friday wreck sends teen to hospital
