Dyersburg Rotary hosts annual P.H. White Jr. Memorial Rural Urban Day

Local farmers and the agricultural community were honored last week by the Dyersburg Noon Rotary Club during the annual P.H. White Jr. Memorial Rotary Rural Urban Day at the Dyer County fairgrounds. Approximately 400 guests attended the event and enjoyed pork steaks, black-eyed peas, slaw, turnip greens, and sweet potatoes. Newbern City Board upholds firing of police officer for smoking

The Newbern City Board voted to uphold the termination of a Newbern police officer at a called meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Newbern Police Sgt. James Bishop was terminated on Jan. 9, 2012 for violating the city's No Smoking Policy, established in Oct. 2007. A letter drafted to Bishop by Newbern Police Chief Harold Dunivant on Jan. 17 states all municipal employees were furnished copies of a memo describing the terms and conditions of the No Smoking Policy when the policy was adopted in 2007...

Another mild, fairly pleasant February weekend has come and gone and a lot of folks got out and caught some fish. There were a couple of tournaments that took place over the weekend, and I managed to win a trophy without even attending (that's when you know you're good!) and it wasn't for "Best Participation"...
