At the Shelter
(Features ~ 07/19/12)
When people say, "I couldn't foster because it would be too hard to give a pet up," we say, "How can it be harder than knowing a pet died because no foster home stepped up?" and that is why we do it time and time again. People are always telling me, "I can't go to the shelter, I would bring them all home" or "I can't volunteer because I would cry." If you don't, who will? We do everything we can to make a pet's stay at the shelter as pleasant as possible while they are waiting for a forever home. They love attention and going on walks. They appreciate pet treats and toys; dogs enjoy baths. There are many things you can do to help. Please foster or volunteer. You will be making a difference in a local homeless shelter pet's life! Please call the shelter office at 285-4889 for details! If you can't foster or volunteer, there are other ways you can help. Dogs and puppies like to lie on dog blankets; it makes them feel safe and secure. We also need fleece material, leashes, collars, dog no-tears shampoo, towels for drying dogs and puppies after a bath, high-quality dry dog/puppy/cat/kitten food, canned food for cats and dogs, pet bottles/formula/soft canned food formulated for kittens and puppies, toys, as I mentioned, we need soft, cuddly stuffed animals for the babies, treats, Clorox bleach, Germ-ex (hand sanitizer), paper towels, toilet paper, office supplies, etc. Note: We are totally out of cuddly, stuffed animals for the babies. The single kitten or puppy will quit crying and go to sleep if it can snuggle against a soft, stuffed animal. It makes them feel secure. We cannot use beanie babies, anything with buttons, scarves, bead eyes, etc. because it presents a choking hazard.
