Dyer County FFA gears up for fair week

Members of the Dyer County FFA Chapter pose in front of their new livestock trailer. The chapter is in full swing showing cattle, swine, and sheep at area fairs and events. Fairgoers will be able to see the work these students have put into these animals at the Dyer County Fair this week. Cattle shows are on Monday and Tuesday nights. Sheep shows are on Thursday and Friday, and swine shows are on Wednesday and Thursday. The junior exhibitors will also be at the junior market animal sale on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the livestock barn. Boy, that's a lot of corn!

Workers were observed on Friday, Aug. 31 transferring corn from this field to the grain silos just across the street on Highway 51. This year's corn yield has been significantly hurt due to extreme drought conditions in the area. Due to the drought, the U.S. Department of Agriculture estimated that farmers were expected to produce 13 percent less corn this year than in previous years.

E911 board discusses CAD mobile data hardware bids
