Okeena Park trees weather drought

The trees of Okeena Park in Dyersburg weathered this summer's drought largely unscathed. This is the result of many hours of volunteer efforts to be sure that the young trees received enough water during the hot, dry summer. Early voting begins

Voters wait in line to cast their ballots during early voting at the Dyer County Election Commission's office in downtown Dyersburg on Wednesday. The early-voting polls at the office and the Newbern Oakview Recreation Center opened at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. Administrator Anita Fowlkes stated 575 people voted at the office on Wednesday and the Newbern location had voted 188 by 4 p.m. with another hour to go before the polls closed. Election officials estimated they were voting 100 people an hour during the morning at the downtown office. There are three locations where residents may early vote over the next couple of weeks. * Dyer County Election Office, 103 West Market St., Dyersburg, Tenn., from Oct. 17 -- Nov. 1. Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-noon. * Oakview Recreation Center,614 Oakview Drive, Newbern, Tenn., from Oct. 17 -- Oct. 20. Dyersburg woman arrested for embezzling $1.7 million in Calif.

A Dyersburg woman is in jail in Santa Ana, Calif., after she allegedly embezzled $1.7 million from her employer. The Irvine Police Department (IPD) arrested Rebecca Rhea Moore, 38, on Thursday, Oct. 11 after they concluded a one-year investigation. Moore is charged with two felony counts of grand theft by embezzlement, eight felony counts each of computer access fraud and falsifying records, and 29 counts of forgery with sentencing enhancement allegations for loss over $1.3 million and aggravated white collar crime over $500,000.. ...
