(Local News ~ 02/13/13)
A theft suspect from Union City, Tenn. is placed inside an ambulance after being tased by law enforcement officials alongside I-155 in Dyer County on Tuesday afternoon. The incident began in Union City on Tuesday afternoon, when police recognized the suspect, Mike Walker, as he was driving a black vehicle with three other passengers. Officers knew Walker had active warrants for his arrest and he was the suspect in a theft case. Walker reportedly refused to pull over and officers pursued him onto I-155 headed for Dyer County. The Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Obion County Sheriff's Dept. responded to the pursuit and were met by Dyer County Sheriff's deputies and Newbern Police when the pursuit reached Dyer County. Around 4:30 p.m., officers boxed the car in, forcing Walker to pull over near a guardrail approximately one mile from the Newbern exit in the westbound lane of I-155. The driver bailed from the vehicle and tried to escape through field. Officers had to tase him and took him into custody. Afterward, Walker complained of chest pains and Dyersburg EMS responded to the scene. The passengers in the vehicle were not charged with anything and the vehicle had to be towed back to Obion County. No other injuries were reported and no civilian vehicles were damaged in the chase. Walker was taken to Dyersburg Regional Medical Center for treatment. State Gazette photo/Jason Cannon
