Pioneering Healthy Communities committee meets with TDOT representatives

The Dyer County Pioneering Healthy Communities Walkways and Bikeways Committee recently met with state representatives for a tour of the area. The visitors represent a newly formed state division addressing cycling and walking initiatives for the Tennessee Department of Transportation. A subcommittee of the Dyer County PHC committee consisting of residents interested in implementing local bikeways and walkways welcomed the state leaders. The TDOT representatives offered advice and assistance on the Dyer County PHC committee's plans for establishing walkways and bikeways throughout the Dyer County community. The local grassroots committee resolved to move forward with the creation of urban hiking trails in Dyersburg via existing sidewalks. The group also committed to formulating a master plan for the establishment of walking and biking routes to promote safety and fitness and generally enhance the quality of life in Dyersburg. A Newbern Police officer was relieved of duty on Friday for reportedly falsifying his time sheets after the department began an internal affairs investigation into the matter.
