Rising Obion River forces road closures
(Local News ~ 05/08/13)
High waters from the Obion River forced the closure of Sharpes Ferry Road just outside of Trimble, Tenn. Dyer County Road Superintendent Jeff Jones said numerous other roads have also been temporarily closed due to flooding. These closed roadways include portions of Bradley Road, Miss Kelly Loop Road, and Everett's Lake Road, and the road going from Eloise to Chic next to the Mississippi River. Jones said the water is going down in certain areas and road crews are cleaning off debris left behind by the water. The National Weather Service predicts the Mississippi River will rise to 37.63 feet at the Caruthersville, Mo. gauge today and it is expected to slowly go back down over the next several days. The flood stage for the river is 32 feet. The Obion River at Bogota was 21.61 feet this morning and it is not expected to reach its flood stage of 22 feet. NWS predicts the river will begin to lower over the next several days, although rain is expected to move into the area beginning Thursday and continue through Saturday.
