Betty Evelyn Bledsoe Piper On August 12, 2013, our beloved mother and Grandmother Betty Evelyn Bledsoe Piper passed away peacefully at the age of 83. Dyersburg Fire Department participates in recertification

DFD Rope Rescue Personnel performed their bi-annual recertification on Aug. 15 and 16, 2013. The recertification was conducted by Ms. Pat Wagner, "Mountain Rope Safety Courses" (Signal Mountain, Tenn.). Her courses include Low Angle Rope Rescue, Rope Rescue Operations, Rope Rescue Technician, Confined Space Rescue Technician, Tower Rescue, Basic Tactical Rappelling, Advanced Tactical Rappelling as well as Recreational Rope Courses. ...

County grants exemption for Verizon tower

The Dyer County Board of Zoning and Appeals unanimously approved on Tuesday afternoon to allow Verizon Wireless to place a wireless communications tower at 5569 Millsfield Highway. The issue had been presented to the board previously but there was concern about the fall radius of such a structure even though Verizon had explained that the tower is designed to collapse on itself in the event of a natural disaster such as a tornado or earthquake. ...

Prayer gathering on courthouse lawn marks 9/11 anniversary

Marking the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States, a prayer service was held on the Dyer County Courthouse lawn on Wednesday. The service, called Cry Out America, was a remembrance of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and part of a nationwide prayer event.
