Saint Mary's hosts regional Diocesan Convention

Saint Mary's Episcopal Church was recently awarded the honor of hosting the 32nd annual Convention of the Dioceses. The convention is the legislative body of the Dioceses of West Tennessee, which exercises all powers not reserved to the Bishop by the canons or tradition. Local soldier trains others at Air Assault School at Ft. Hood

U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Jared Winegarden, from Dyersburg ,Tenn., and Staff Sgt. Keith Collins, from Gatesville, Texas, who are both instructors at the Fort Hood Air Assault School, watch a UH-60 Black Hawk belonging to Company B, 1st Bn., 227th Aviation Reg., 1st Air Cav. Bde. maneuver into place for sling load testing on Sept. 14, 2013. Air Assault School qualifies soldiers to conduct airmobile and air assault helicopter operations, to include aircraft orientation, sling load operations, proper rappelling techniques and fast-rope techniques. The school itself is 10 days of rigorous, fast-paced training. The high standards of the school require the student to take part in a 12-mile march with rucksack in under three hours on the morning of graduation to be awarded their wings. Iterations of the Fort Hood Air Assault School begin with 132 students, and ends with an average of 80 graduates.
