Myrtle Garrett, age 96 of Dyersburg, died Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 23, 2014 11:00 a.m. at Ridgley Chapel M.B. Church in Ridgley, TN. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Tom Sanders officiating. Burial will be held in Citizens Cemetery in Tiptonville, TN. McIver's Grant makes donation to Matthew 25:40

McIver's Grant Public Library recently made a significant donation to the Matthew 25:40 food pantry. The library's recent fine-forgiveness program allowed residents with late fees and library fines to forgive their debt with a donation of canned goods and non-perishable food items. MLK ceremony celebrates the man and the dream

Dyer County's annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration was held on the steps of the courthouse on Monday morning. A break in the weather allowed members of the Dyer County branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People to celebrate Dr. King and his legacy outside the courthouse this January. Residents participating in the event marched from the Future City community to the courthouse, singing praise, waving signs and holding banners...

4 dead in Gates house fire

A house fire that occurred early Saturday morning in Gates, Tenn. claimed the lives of a 26-year-old woman and her three daughters. The fire occurred at 36 Hamil St. in Gates, Tenn. The Associated Press identified the woman as Amanda Springer and her children as 3-year-old twins and a 5-year-old. Neighbor Peggy Torres said she awoke to the sounds of screams then looked out her window and saw black smoke coming from the house. The cause of the fire has reportedly not been determined. A memorial fund has also been set up at the Bank of Halls to help pay for the funerals of Springer and her children. Donations can be made in Amanda Springer's name.

Finley man in critical condition, sheriff's dept. investigating

The Dyer County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate an incident that sent a Finley, Tenn. man to the Med, after he was found lying in the middle of the road. According to Dyer County Sheriff Jeff Box, on Friday, Jan. 10, around 12:45 a.m., deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 5000 block of Highway 104 West in reference to a call about unwanted persons. ...
