Halls Veterans Museum recognizes visitors

Al Hettich of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Joe Hettich of Cumby, Texas came to the Museum on Aug. 30 to visit the CH-46E Sea Night. Al was the crew chief of this aircraft when it was retrofitted to fly dignitaries during Vietnam.

Hester wins State STAR Farmer Award

Reed Hester, pictured here with his display and some of his Charolais at the 2014 Dyer County Fair was awarded the State STAR Farmer Award at the State FFA Convention held in Gatlinburg on March 25. Hester is in his second year at Dyersburg State Community College and is the son of Jimmy and Amy Hester of Finley. He is an avid farmer with Hester Farms, where they focus on the production of corn, soybeans, wheat, and grain sorghum. Raising high-quality registered Charolais cattle is also something that Hester is involved in and hopes to build his beef cattle production. Previously he has shown cattle at the Dyer County Fair, but recently decided to let his younger brother enjoy this aspect of the fair. Hester plans to transfer to the University of Tennessee at Martin and major in agricultural business.

Dyer County Fair hosts 'Special Needs Day' for 45th year

For 45 years, the Dyer County Fair board has offered a few hours that are set aside for handicapped children and students in Dyer County and surrounding areas to participate in their "Special Needs Day". Children are able to experience most of the events of the Dyer County Fair, including the petting zoo, watching the pig races, seeing the exhibits and their favorite part, riding on the midway carnival rides...
