Firefighters battle early-morning blaze

Dyersburg firefighters were dispatched to combat a raging house fire at approximately 5 a.m. Tuesday. The residence, located at 1514 Wheeler St. in Dyersburg, was engulfed in heavy smoke and flames when firemen arrived on the scene. Smoke infiltrated the house and the street blocking a clear view of the house upon arrival. High flames were located on the roof, side of the house and back eave of the roof indicating the fire had reached the attic space of the house. The occupants of the residence had already evacuated upon the arrival of the firemen. Firemen from all three stations were called to the scene. Men from another shift were called in to assist with overhaul and salvage cleanup and relieve the firemen that were first on the scene.
