One thing that makes covering basketball at the high school level is the variety of atmospheres you can experience, sometimes within the same night of action. In the 16 days since returning to the State Gazette, this intrepid reporter has managed to make at least one appearance at each of the local sporting venues. In doing this, for me, it is much like reading your favorite book for the first time in many years and enjoying it all over again...

Security Bank donates to Goodfellows

The external directors of Security Bank wanted to spread some holiday cheer to a local charity this Christmas on behalf of all Security Bank employees. A donation was made to the Dyersburg Kiwanis Goodfellows project to help fund their Christmas food boxes they prepare each year. Ron Switzer, board member, stated, 'The employees at Security Bank go above and beyond for their customers and community every day. The bank's external board members wanted to thank them for their hard work through a charity donation this Christmas season in their honor. We thought the Kiwanis Goodfellows project was a perfect fit.' Dyersburg dominates Patriots in Border Classic opener

The Dyersburg Trojans took an early lead behind stellar shooting and never looked back, dominating the Palestine-Wheatley Patriots 81-18 on the opening night of the Border Classic at Dyersburg High School. The Dyersburg Trojans completed their sweep of the Border Classic on Saturday, extending a small halftime lead to a 48-37 victory over the Blytheville Chickasaws at Dyersburg High School. "We came out the first couple of trips down the court in the second half and felt like we lost a little of our juice," Dyersburg head coach Blaine Mahaffey said. As a growing construction company with projects underway across the nation, it's hard at times for RFW officials to plan a date to have the majority of the workforce at one place, at one time, to talk about the present state of the company.
