Truck overturns on Highway 51 South

At approximately 4:20 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, members of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Dyer County Sheriff's Department, Newbern Fire Department, Dyer County Rescue Squad and Tennessee Department of Transportation responded to a single-vehicle accident involving a large commercial truck along US Highway 51 South approximately one mile from the Newbern exit. Trooper Freeze of the THP said the vehicle was traveling southbound when the driver ran off the road before flipping over and coming to rest in the left lane of southbound US Hwy 51. The driver of the vehicle was transported by ambulance to Dyersburg Regional Hospital. At the time of this report, the extent of the driver's injuries was unknown and his name and the name of the trucking company were being withheld until a family member could be notified. However, Dyer County Fire Chief James Medling said that the driver appeared to have minor injuries, and nothing life threatening. Southbound traffic on US Hwy 51 was backed up while Lowery's worked on preparing the truck for towing, and Dyer County Sheriff's deputies began rerouting vehicles to the Newbern exit and Highway 77.
