County schools to hold pre-kindergarten registration May 1

Festival of Songs scheduled for April 26

The New Life Union Mission's 14th Festival of Songs is scheduled for Sunday, April 26 at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Dyersburg. Participating choirs this year will be First United Methodist Church of Dyersburg (both chancel and hand bell choirs) directed by Cooper Patterson, First United Methodist Church of Ripley directed by Harley Patterson, and Hillcrest Baptist Church of Dyersburg directed by Wayne Day. Bill Kelly will once again be playing selections on the piano and organ. This will be the first year to feature choirs directed by brothers Copper and Harley Patterson. Please note that this year's program will start at 3 p.m. instead of 2 p.m. as in past years. An offering will be taken to provide funds for the Mission's Weekend Food For Kids Backpack program, which provides a sack of food for 85 children over the weekend in Dyersburg City, Dyer County, and Halls schools. The offering will also be used to purchase school supplies and shirts and pants to meet dress codes for children in Dyersburg, Dyer County and Lauderdale County schools.

Community shows support for former nurse with rare illness

The community rallied funds recently for a former nurse with a serious health condition. A bake and yard sale fundraiser was held in honor of Betty Burns Friday at Dyersburg Healthcare and Rehabilitation.
