Juneteenth celebration a success with a bit of irony to boot

When retired Maj. Gen. Jimmy Welch agreed to read the Emancipation Proclamation for Juneteenth Day, he had no idea who was to introduce him. In a twist of irony, it turned out Welch was introduced by Abraham Lincoln, the author of that very document. As Welch read the long and technically worded document, that would end slavery in America, someone in the crowd said, 'That sounds like a lawyer wrote that!' And so the irony of Juneteenth continued.

Farm Bureau breaks ground on new building

Dyer County Farm Bureau President Tommy Rice and Farm Bureau agency manager Kent Morris are flanked by staff, directors, and friends at the groundbreaking of their new building which will be located at 419 Hwy 51 Bypass, next to Dyersburg High School. Construction is set to begin immediately, with a goal of grand opening by Christmas.

Farmers Market enjoys bountiful opening day

Complaints on uncut grass growing in county and city

High grass and weeds on various properties in the county have become a problem for community members. Uncut grasses are growing taller and taller and in doing so, bringing potential dangers. Dyer County Building Official Daniel Cobb said he received 62 code complaints for blighted properties last week. Last year, a total of 1,989 complaints were filed...
