City school board says goodbye to Taylor, welcomes new member Ward

Monday afternoon the Dyersburg City School Board convened to approve the nomination of Lisa Ward as the new school board member. She was selected out of four nominees to replace resigning board member Kathy Taylor. Chairman Joe Yates opened the meeting to thank all those board members for the work they'd done this past year, but especially Taylor saying: "She's given her all, she's done everything the board has asked her to do, and her community has asked her to do." Natural gas odor alarms some local residents

On Tuesday afternoon, residents of homes near the intersection of St. John Avenue and Wheeler Street reported the odor of gas. Dyersburg Fire and Gas departments' personnel responded a little before 2 p.m. but failed to find the source at the meter or inside the home at 736 St. John Ave. Personnel on the scene said they would check for a possible "underground" leak as soon as more equipment arrived. No immediate danger or threat from the suspected leak was indicated...

Investigators determine cause of fire at Full Throttle

STURGIS, S.D. -- The cause of the Sept. 8 fire at the Full Throttle Saloon located at 12997 South Dakota Highway 34, in Sturgis, was ruled to be accidental, announced South Dakota State Fire Marshal Director Paul Merriman and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) St. Paul Field Division Special Agent in Charge James Modzelewski on Monday. The ATF National Response Team (NRT), along with agents from the ATF St. Paul Field Division, the South Dakota State Fire Marshal's Office, the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, the Meade County Sheriff's Office and the Sturgis Police Department have completed the investigation into the cause of the fire. Investigators can say conclusively that the fire originated in the main part of the bar and has been determined to be accidental in nature. Damage is estimated at approximately $10 million. "The ATF National Response Team and our investigative partners have completed their assignments at the fire scene. Over the past five days investigators have taken countless photographs, inspected and examined evidence recovered from the scene and conducted numerous interviews. The information developed was reviewed and analyzed to assist in determining the cause of the fire," said Modzelewski. The ATF National Response Team departed Sturgis Monday.
