Northview hosts middle school jamboree

Three Oaks and Northview Middle Schools wrapped up their preseason schedules on Monday with jamboree action at Northview Middle School. Northview's girls won both of their contests - 22-8 over Lake County and 25-2 over Halls - while the Northview boys tied Lake County 25-25 and defeated Halls 18-14. Three Oaks was swept by Union City as the girls lost 21-12 and the boys fell 17-8.

Lady Choctaws cross country advances to state

Carrying on a tradition that has been going since 2001, the Lady Choctaw cross country team advanced to the Class AAA State Meet by finishing second in the Region 7-AAA Cross Country Meet on Saturday at Shelby Farms in Memphis. Hess Lodge 93 celebrates 175 years

On Oct. 9, 1840, Hess Lodge No. 93 was officially chartered by the Grand Masonic Lodge of Tennessee, 10 years before the small town of Dyersburg was even incorporated. Organized in 1831, the original lodge had 40 members. According to the Grand Masonic Lodge of Tennessee: "The mission of Freemasonry is to promote a way of life that binds like minded men in a worldwide brotherhood that transcends all religious, ethnic, cultural, social and educational differences; by teaching the great principles of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth: and, by the outward expression of these, through its fellowship, its compassion and its concern, to find ways in which to serve God, family, country, neighbors and self.". ...

Dyer County teachers meet for in-service training

Dyersburg County High School did not have classes on Monday, nor did any of the other county schools, but the teachers came together for their in-service training held at DCHS. Dr. Larry Lusk, supervisor of curriculum (6-8), Title I and federal projects, welcomed the crowd of teachers saying: "What makes our school system great is the culture and business that goes on inside our schools. The nurture, care and love for each child that walks through that door is what education is all about."...

Healing Horses Fall Festival Fundraiser held at fairgrounds

Pilots for Patients receives $2,000 donation from Community Cancer Fund

Changing lives through their continuing efforts, Pilots for Patients has been serving members of the Dyer County community for over seven years. Led by President Philip Thomas, this airborne ministry currently undergoes 15-20 missions a week, with a total of 2700 missions undergone since its founding in 2008, all this totaling an impressive 970,000 nautical miles. According to Thomas, this is equivalent to flying around the Earth's equator a whopping 44 times...
