Dyersburg Police officer graduates from Southeastern Leadership Academy
(Local News ~ 11/19/15)
Lt. Brett Davis (l) graduated the Southeastern Leadership Academy, (SELA) following a ceremony on Friday, at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga campus. Pictured with Davis is DPD Chief Steve Isbell. Interactive instruction from top law enforcement personnel is provided to students during one week a month for five weeks in Chattanooga. SELA is operated by the Law Enforcement Innovation Center through the University of Tennessee Knoxville, and UT Chattanooga. Each week instruction focused around themed lessons: Foundations of Leadership/Leading Others, Leadership Skills, Building External Relationships, Employee/Internal Matters and Critical Issues. The academy, which is targeted toward middle management, challenges participants to develop their leadership styles in order to become more effective and progressive leaders. Chief Steve Isbell said, 'Lieutenant Davis is the sixth officer from Dyersburg to attend SELA since it was first developed in 2001. The department has not sent an officer to SELA since 2006, and being a graduate of SELA in 2003, I understand the importance of ensuring our senior-level managers are graduates of a command and leadership academy. Lieutenant Davis was promoted to lieutenant in December 2014, where he is one of two lieutenants in a senior supervisory role in patrol services. Davis serves as one of the department's hostage/crisis negotiators and is one of the department's public information officers.'
