Three Oaks pulls away to take tourney title

Beating a good team three times in one season is a tough task in basketball, but the Three Oaks Choctaws were able to pull that off while running their record to 18-0 to claim the WTAC Small Area Tournament championship with a 51-43 win over rival Northview on Wednesday night at Halls in a gym packed with Choctaw supporters.

TCAT announces Outstanding Student of the Year

TCAT-Newbern is proud to announce that its Outstanding Student of the Year, Vachela Scates, has won at the regional level and will advance to the state competition in April. DHS technology students win awards at regional competition

Local family hosts Ukrainian orphan, sad to see him leave

New Horizons for Children Inc. (NHFC) is the largest, faith-based host program for facilitating orphan hosting in the U.S. Since 2002, more than 3,500 orphans have been hosted through their ministry. In recent years most of their orphans have come from the eastern European countries of Latvia and Ukraine.

7th-grade student scores 23 on ACT

Austin Anderson, an 11-year-old seventh-grader at Christ Classical Academy, has recently been recognized for scoring a 23 on his ACT exam, placing him in the top 13 percent of all test takers in Tennessee.

Ronald C. Chambers, 64, of Dyersburg, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Tennova Healthcare Dyersburg Regional. He was a retired sales manager for Coca-Cola. Ronald was an avid U.T. Vol Fan and an avid gardener. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Phipps and the Rev. Brian Funderburk officiating. DHS cheer team to compete for first time at nationals

The Dyersburg High School cheer team will be competing in the National High School Cheer Championships Feb. 6-7 at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. The team qualified for nationals by winning the Super Varsity Non Tumbling Division at the UCA Mid-South Regional Championship in South Haven, Mississippi in October. The team also competed at the TSSAA State Cheer Championship in November placing sixth in the state. The team is scheduled to leave for nationals on Feb. 3 and return Feb. 8. Their first performance is slated for 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 6 in the Super Varsity Non Tumble Division. This is Dyersburg High School's first trip to national competition. The team has 21 members: 19 females two males.

Expansion coming to annual jamboree

After being able to come and see the final preseason preparations for the Dyersburg Trojans and five other area football teams for the last few seasons, plans were finalized on Thursday morning to make this season's football jamboree bigger than ever as the field will expand to eight teams for the Aug. 12 event.
