Black History Month presentation hosted at Office on Aging

Wednesday, Feb. 17, the Dyer County Office on Aging hosted a luncheon honoring Black History Month. The guest speaker was Ronnie Smith, district manager of the Memphis North Social Security Administration. Before the meal was served, Smith greeted the audience, took off his coat, and began to tell what Black History Month means to him. He asked the crowd if they'd ever heard of Martin Luther King Jr., or Booker T. Washington, or President Barack Obama. "Of course, yes, sure have" the audience replied. "So we all know a lot of black history already, right?" he answered. "Well then, let me tell you some black history you might not know about."

Local band competes for chance to open Kellie Pickler show

Overturned mobile home temporarily shuts down I-155

Friday afternoon's strong winds resulted in the crash of a mobile home unit that was strapped to a rig traveling down I-155. According to Dyer County Sheriff Jeff Box, the mobile home had apparently blown off the rig and onto the interstate, causing I-155 to close down until the mobile home could be moved out of the way of travelers.

Dyersburg man indicted on possession of synthetic marijuana

A six-month investigation by the Dyer County Sheriff's Office has resulted in the indictment of a Dyersburg man charged with multiple counts involving the possession of synthetic marijuana.

Rebel rally downs Trojans in semis

The Trojans had their eyes on a semifinal upset after leading at the end of the first half, but a third-quarter run by Obion County Central put the Rebels on top as they added to their lead from the free-throw line in the final eight minutes as they handed Dyersburg a 60-52 setback in the District 13AA semifinals on Friday night at Milan High School.
