Born Friday, June 12, 1959, in Dyersburg, Tennessee. He was the son of the late Lloyd Ralph Easterwood and the late Rebecca Sue Hall Easterwood. He was an officer at the West Tennessee State Penitentiary and a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church...

Many people tend to judge a season based solely on wins and loses or on championships. You can include me in that, but only when it comes to how the New York Yankees do and where they finish when the season is over. But, when I look back at the 2015-16 basketball season, one word comes to mind when it comes to all four of our local high school teams...

Crane passes 1,000-point milestone during postseason

Before last Saturday's substate game, Dyer County senior Olivia Crane (left) was presented with a ball commemorating her 1,000th career point, which she scored during the Lady Choctaws run to the state tournament. Presenting the ball to Crane was Dyer County head coach Derek McCord.

Balanced Lady Trojans look for success at home

While the first preseason for a new head coach can be complicated at times, the players on the Lady Trojans are not unfamiliar to new Dyersburg head coach Matthew Shearon as he coached against them at Covington before coming to DHS this past summer. This, of course, makes the transition smoother.

Health Council gives updates on nutrition programs, community events

The Dyer County Health Council met recently at McIver Grant Public Library. During the meeting health officials in the area released updates on many of the area's new programs, as well as the current successes of ongoing programs.

God's Hands Special Needs Ministry thriving at First Methodist

Wednesday nights are "special" at First United Methodist Church, and now that word "special" has become even more meaningful. Since 2012, the church has offered their "God's Hands Special Needs Ministry" for special needs individuals of all ages. The class provides various activities, including: devotionals, times of sharing, prayer, arts and crafts, and physical activities in their Family Life Center. Such physical activities include walking, playing basketball and other games designed for each individual's level of ability.

Justice for Jennifer: Woman's murderer sentenced to 30 years in prison

In 2005, 24-year old Jennifer Annette Smith Mosier, cherished dearly by her, children, family and friends, was ripped from this world after falling victim of 'Long Haul Territory Killer' John Wayne Boyer, who entered a guilty plea on Dec. 10, 2015. Sixty-two-year-old Boyer will now face the next 30 years of his life behind bars.

Dyersburg selected to receive $7.4 million in grants

The city of Dyersburg has been awarded $7.4 million in National Disaster Resilience Competition grants, with $4.4 million to be used for Parks & Recreation (e.g. conservation easements), and $3 million for sewer infrastructure rehabilitation. The funds are in response to the flooding that occurred in West Tennessee during 2011.
