Jones 15K outing leads Lady Trojans to 19th straight win

Even with the Lady Trojan bats cooling down after a very offensive weekend in tournament action, senior Paige Jones led the way, setting down 15 Lady Bulldogs on strikes as well as getting a pair of two-run hits as Dyersburg defeated Milan 4-1 in District 13AA action on Monday in Dyersburg.

When faced with severe weather, as we are prone to this time of year in West Tennessee, a common concern is for family safety. "Where should we go?" and "When should we go there?" are among the many questions racing through one's brain when the sound of sirens fills the air. Fortunately, through the provision of at least $3 million in grants awarded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and over $6,000 awarded by the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), the cities of Dyersburg and Newbern will be able to provide solutions to citizens with storm safety worries.

When sirens and warnings sounded in West Tennessee the evening of April 2, 2006 the common thought was that nothing usually happens here. Joe Atchison, "Little Joe" to all who have known him since he was a child, was 25 at the time. He had grown up in the Millsfield area on Harness Road and had the same mentality about storm warnings. "I was at my childhood home when the warning came across," Joe remembered, "and I knew that I was safe there, but I needed to get home to my wife and baby girl."

Newbern holds ceremonies to honor those killed in 2006 tornado

Saturday, April 2, marked the 10th anniversary of the 2006 tornado disaster that devastated the Millsfield area, leaving 16 dead and 70 wounded. To honor those who lost their lives that tragic night, the city of Newbern held a special dedication ceremony at the recently completed Newbern Elementary School safe room.
