W.T. "Ed" Patterson, 77, of Hornbeak, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Mr. Patterson was a farmer. He also was a Baptist. Services for Mr. Patterson will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Independent Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Southerland officiating. Burial will be in New Haven Cemetery. Woman airlifted after wreck on Hwy 51 Bypass

A devastating car wreck occurring on Hwy 51 Bypass South, early Thursday evening, resulted in the injury of a Dyer County woman. According to law enforcement officials, 32-year-old Alanda Adams, driver of a 2007 grey Chevy Tahoe, was traveling northbound on Hwy 51 Bypass, when she struck the rear edge of a green 2003 freightliner driven by 61-year-old Larry Faulkner, who was in the process of turning off of the highway median to travel south.

First South Bank begins litter-prevention effort

First South Bank has launched an environmental employee campaign using its own initialed insulated glasses to use for hot and cold drinks. Sheila Jones, First South Bank vice president, indicated they are providing an alternative to Styrofoam cups at the workplace for environmental conservation. This ongoing initiative is in contribution to the Great American Cleanup in Dyer County.

Healing Horses ribbon cutting

On April 2, the Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting for Healing Horses Inc. Executive Director and Certified Instructor Sonya Burks was joined by members of the Healing Horses Board of Directors, volunteers, Chamber diplomats, and Mayor John Holden for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
