Eastman because her son once rescued a baby robin, fed it and raised it until it was old enough to return to the wild. Sam Viar then taught the bird to flap its wings and take flight. The bird, which enjoyed perching on Sam Viar's tennis shoe, even returned to visit the Viar's Lakewood home a few times after returning to the wild. The story of the tamed robin ran in the Aug. 4, 1995 issue of the State Gazette in an article written by Kathy Krone.
