Highlands' residents receive visit from furry companions

Recently, the Highlands of Dyersburg Health and Rehabilitation welcomed two furry visitors, 3-year-old Blu, a black shorthair, and Jax, a large Newfoundland. The animals' special visit to the facility was prompted by a desire to promote the facility's Pet Therapy program, in turn, drawing the attention of more local animal owners who may wish to register their animal for visits.

County zoning board rejects gun business, approves Verizon tower

The Dyer County Board of Zoning Appeals met Tuesday, Aug. 23 at 3:30 p.m. inside the county's building and zoning office's conference room. All board members were present, with the exception of Almous Austin. Dyer County Mayor Chris Young was also present at the meeting. Board member Charles Ozment brought the meeting to order.

Crockett County woman charged with attempted murder

Hillcrest Baptist food pantry open Saturday

The Hillcrest Baptist Church Food Pantry, at 825 Hillcrest Ave. in Dyersburg, will be open from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27. There will be approximately 25 food boxes available, and anyone with a need qualifies. The food boxes are first come, first served. For those who plan to attend, please enter the church through the office entrance on the north side of the property. If anyone would like to help stock the HBC Food Pantry, donations can be made to the Hillcrest Benevolence Committee. You may call the HBC office Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. -- 5 p.m. at 731-285-6530 for more information. Hillcrest opens its food pantry the fourth Saturday of each month.

Rough Country provides local student with internship opportunity turned full-time career

In 2014, John Robert Harrison, a then recent graduate of Dyer County High School, started college at the University of Memphis, where he began to take strides toward earning his degree in Engineering Technology. DSCC honors outstanding alums, Wood and Parker

On Friday, Aug. 19, Tony Parker and Jack Wood were honored with Outstanding Alumnus Awards from Dyersburg State Community College. The ceremony took place at 8 a.m. inside the DSCC Student Center. Kristol Sentell, vice president of the DSCC Alumni Board and assistant V.P. of First Citizens Bank, presented the awards.

DFD responds to Lynn St. fire Wednesday evening; no injuries

At 8:38 p.m. Wednesday evening, the Dyersburg Fire Department received a call for a fire of an apartment duplex at 1912 Lynn St. Responding to the fire were 16 fire personnel, along with two Tennova EMS personnel. No injuries were reported. Responders remained on the scene until 11:06 p.m. Wednesday. According to Dyersburg Fire Department Chief Tim Ware, the fire appeared to have started in the lower apartment, which spread to the upstairs apartment, and is currently under investigation.
