It's that time of year again -- fair week in Dyer County. Thousands of patrons will flock to the fairgrounds over the next few days to enjoy all of the festivities offered by the Annual Dyer County Fair. However, before the magical glow of the neon lights along the midway, this time-honored tradition began to form its roots here in Dyer County in the late 1800s.

One-car accident takes out utility pole

On Friday, Sept. 2, a one-car accident that occurred on Hamer Road totaled not only the vehicle, but a utility pole as well. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the individual, a minor, left the roadway and overcorrected the vehicle allowing it to overturn, striking the utility pole. EMS was called on the scene, but the driver did not leave with the EMS crew. Also present at the scene were Dyer County Sheriff's Department officers and members of Dyersburg Electric System. DES workers had to replace the snapped power line.

Dennison announces plans to run for Newbern mayor
