County finance committee OKs refinance of bonds

Recently, the Dyer County Finance Committee convened to discuss options of refinancing bonds totaling $9,803,977.53. Since July, the committee has spent much time addressing the issue of the bonds, which if left unattended would, in years to come, cause the Debt Service Fund to reflect a negative balance, as the county's annual payment of roughly $4 million will jump by an additional $1.5 million during the years of 2023-2026.

Community Cancer Fund receives donation from TOMS volleyball team

Late Tuesday evening, Community Cancer Fund Director Debbie Harris met with young ladies of Three Oaks Middle School's volleyball team, where she was presented with a check for $600 that will now be used to help a local neighbor in need. Funds for the donation were raised after the team hosted a 'Pink Out' honoring Three Oaks teacher Cali DeSpain, who underwent a battle against cancer only one year ago. 'They know Cali and they know that the Community Cancer Fund helped her, so they were inspired to help raise money that will now go towards helping others,' stated Harris. Creating a buzz: Reelfoot Beekeeper's Association

The Reelfoot Beekeeper's Association (RBA), founded in 2014, has attracted veteran beekeepers as well as those new to the hobby to their monthly meetings since its inception. The RBA was created after the Northwest Tennessee Beekeeper's Association expressed an interest in providing a location local to beekeepers of Dyer, eastern Obion, Lake Counties, as well as Fulton County, Ky. The RBA's mission is to raise awareness of beekeeping to the people of Reelfoot Lake area, and they welcome anyone new to the hobby or very much experienced in the art of beekeeping at their meetings.

At 7 a.m. Tuesday, numerous DCHS students made way to the school's flagstaff for the annual prayer rally, 'See You at the Pole'. In celebration of their Christian beliefs students across the nation have been participating in the annual event for decades, which was originally formed back in the early '90s, as a small group of students came together for a moment of prayer at their school. Since 2005, the prayer rally has attracted positive attention from across the world, becoming an event in which students are able to collectively relay millions of prayers from locations stretching across the globe.
