Durbin, Lusk attend education meetings

On Tuesday, Feb. 7, Rep Bill Sanderson and School Superintendents Neel Durbin and Larry Lusk attended meetings at the Capitol to discuss upcoming legislation and education budget changes for the 2017-18 school year. Each year education costs take up the largest portion of state funding per budget item. The school leaders attend meetings early each legislative session to discuss how to best utilize the funds. Dyer-Lake CASA to host 4th Annual Dancing with the Stars

On Saturday, March 4, Dyer-Lake CASA will host the 4th Annual Dancing With the Stars event at the Lannom Center. The reception will begin at 6 p.m. with a light dinner, with the dance competition kicking off at 7. Tickets for the event will be available for $10 at First Citizens National Bank, Simmons Bank, and contacting dyerlakecasa@cableone.net. Tickets for the event will also be available at the door. All proceeds go to give your voice to abused and neglected children in our court system.

Early Wednesday morning, Walk Across Tennessee (WAT) committee members convened at the Dyer County UT/TSU Extension Office to discuss the event’s upcoming kickoff date scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 5:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Dyersburg Mall.

Trojans rally to stay alive in postseason

There's never a dull moment in the postseason as, for the second straight game, it took an extra frame to decide things for the Trojans as the Dyersburg boys rallied from 11 down in the fourth quarter to force overtime on their way to winning on a last-second, mad dash layup from Kevin Spencer to beat Lexington 72-70 in the Region 7AA Quarterfinals in the Terry Glover Gymnasium on Saturday night.

Choctaws' season ends with loss to Arlington

For the third straight season, the Dyer County Choctaws saw their season come to an end at the hands of a familiar opponent as Arlington handed the orange and white boys a 62-37 loss on Saturday night in the quarterfinals of the Region 7AA Tournament at Dyer County High School.
