Dyerburg's Ross earns two all-state honors from TSWA

Dyersburg senior track standout Jaque Ross will have a couple more honors to add to his collection from his two trips to the Class A-AA State Track Meet as the former Trojan jumper was named to the Tennessee Sportswriters Association Class A-AA All-State Track Team in two events.

Eagle head coach Robert White earns third honor this season

After a second straight season which saw the Dyersburg State baseball team advance further than the Eagles had in the program’s history, DSCC head coach Robert White was named the American Baseball Coaches Association/Diamond Regional Coach of the Year for the NJCAA’s Division I East Central Region for the second straight season.

VFW honors Iraq veteran

Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Scott Gray (right) served in the Persian Gulf War, Iraq War, and War on Terrorism. Recently, Gray received the ‘Take Pride In Your Campaign Medal’ certificate for the Southwest Asia Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal. The certificates were presented to Gray by VFW Post Commander George Winters (left).

Crowds flock to DPA Fourth of July celebration

Sponsored by the City of Union City, DPA’s Annual Fourth of July Fireworks Show welcomed over 4,000 local residents and out-of-towners. To date, the park has had over 900,000 visitors. Free of cost, the celebration featured live music, a cash bar, games, and bounce houses, followed by the fireworks show at 9 p.m.

Tennessee Homeless Solutions making a difference in Dyer County

Recently opening an office in Dyersburg, Tennessee Homeless Solutions (THS) has spent 12 years working to reduce homelessness and improve family stability across 23 counties in the state of Tennessee. Formed by the West Tennessee Continuum of Care (CoC), THS acts as the Collaborative Agency for West Tennessee. THS offers a variety of programs to assist homeless individuals, and in November 2016, they opened the doors to a new office in Dyersburg, located at 1689 Highway 51 Bypass North in Parker Plaza.

Dyer County Sheriff’s Dept. partners with THP for felony arrest

On Thursday, June 29, the Dyer County Sheriff’s Department made a total of eight arrests, including one which was aided by THP Trooper Grant Montgomery, who was led to a residence at 1733 Schaffer St. by an informant claiming to have spotted Jimmy Bingham, a man wanted by the Sheriff’s Department on charges including the sale of methamphetamine,. in excess of .5 grams, and two counts of the sale of cocaine in excess of .5 grams.
