Dyersburg State Community College will host its Annual Alumni Dinner Meeting and Silent Auction Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. DSCC alumni and their guests are invited to enjoy a catered dinner on the Student Center Terrace on the Dyersburg campus with special entertainment and a silent auction to benefit the DSCC Alumni Association Scholarship Fund. New Race accompanies Newbern Depot Days

Twenty years ago, the Rev. George Butler put together a little 5K-race as part of Newbern’s Depot Days celebration. It was a matter of civic pride and community interest that motivated the late Cumberland Presbyterian minister as he was not a racer or runner himself. Since his untimely death in 2013, his son Randy Butler has kept the race alive. “It meant something to Dad,” said the younger Butler, who now serves as director of the Dyer County YMCA. “I just kind of hate to let it go.”...
