Trojans finish 2017 season ranked 10th in the state

Despite a one-point loss to Region 7-4A rival Crockett County in their regular season finale on Friday night at J.C. Sawyers Stadium, the Trojans finished the season in the top 10 of the state in their classification as Dyersburg kept ahold of the 10th spot in the final Associated Press Prep Poll for 2017.

Late Saturday night as news began to spread regarding the untimely passing of legendary football coach James Counce, the memories of a special time regarding Trojan football came flooding back like I never imagined. Juvenile arrested after early-morning chase

Early Monday, around 12:40 a.m., Dyersburg Police responded to an alarm call at 1643 Hwy. 51, Sunshine Motors. The responding officer observed a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu leaving the area with no vehicle registration tag on the car. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop. The officer immediately terminated the traffic stop, and had the vehicle information broadcast to surrounding agencies...

DPS’ Kerri Newsom named Game Plan for Success Aim High fellow

Educators for High Standards recently announced that Kerri Newsom, Dyersburg Primary School kindergarten teacher, has been selected as a Game Plan for Success Aim High fellow. As 1 of 4 educators selected nationally in the program, Newsom, in partnership with a professional athlete, will develop a game plan for success that will address a specific classroom-based challenge facing her students to act as an example for other educators and their students. Teaming up with Tennessee Titans punter Brett Kern, both he and Newsom will show students throughout the school year how aiming high, practicing, and testing themselves can aid students in achieving their academic goals.
