DHS cheer team takes eighth at Nationals

The Dyersburg High School competitive cheerleading team finished in eighth place in the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championships in Orlando, Fla. in the Small Varsity Non-Tumble Game Day Division. The members of the team are (front, from left) Shaniya Cobb, Captain Kellsi Parr, Captain Emma Burns, Jalisa Taylor (Mascot); (back, from left) Ciara Bishop, Kaylon Jones, Matti Felkner and Makayla Glover. The team is coached by head coach Kim Yeiter and assistant coaches Kalli Parr and Kellie Horner.

Dyer County residents take the ‘Plunge’ to benefit West Tenn. Special Olympics

Held Saturday, Feb. 10, at Aloha Pools and Spas in Union City, the annual Polar Plunge event raised over $14,000 for the benefit of West Tennessee Special Olympics. The event welcomed a total of 53 jumpers, many of which are Dyer County residents.

Budget committee OKs fund transfer for new Circuit Court employee

Monday night, prior to the regular session of the Dyer County Legislative Body, Budget Committee members convened to discuss the approval of numerous fund appropriations. In attendance was Circuit Court Clerk TJ Jones, who requested the transfer of funds totaling $10,000 for the hiring of a full-time employee. Roughly 7 years ago, Jones reduced his staff by one employee in an effort to make cutbacks; however, the office is now overwhelmed with more work, and is once again in need of the additional assistance.

County OKs hiring of new data entry clerk, elects budget committee members

The Dyer County Legislative Body [CLB] convened Monday evening with items on the agenda including the election of budget committee members, appointment of agriculture committee members, the submittal of Fiscal Strength and Efficient Government Fiscal confirmation letter for the Three Star Program, and a resolution to require the county Board of Equalization members and County Board Hearing Officers to complete annual continuing education.
