DSCC to implement year-round Pell Grant beginning this summer semester

Dyersburg State Community College has announced that it will implement the year-round Pell Grant beginning this summer semester. Eligible students will receive a full Pell Grant for summer semester even if they received a full Pell Grant during the fall 2017 and spring 2018 semesters. On Tuesday, March 13, the American Women’s Business Association-Southern Accent Chapter, hosted a meeting at The Farms, where guest speakers Alicia Gills - Life Choices Prevention Project director and educator - and Carrie Engelhardt - Life Choices marketing and prevention - spoke on behalf of the local non-profit medical clinic, which specializes in ‘educating and equipping individuals to make empowered decisions, while also providing pregnancy confirmation, and programs’.

Fire Chief Ware retires after 24 years of service

On Friday, March 9, Dyersburg Fire Chief Tim Ware retired after 24 years of service. During a retirement reception, Ware was presented with an honorary fireman’s axe by Dyersburg Mayor John Holden, who expressed his appreciation for Ware’s many years of dedication to the department and the City of Dyersburg.

At the Shelter

The Shelter census is staying low at 45. (There were 42 last week.) Basically, adoptions and rescue groups are taking animals out the front door as more animals come in the back door. DFD responds to fires along Interstate

At approximately 3:45 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Dyersburg Fire Department responded to fires along Interstate 155, near the Dyer County Fairgrounds area. Crews worked to extinguish fires located on both sides as well as the median of the roadway.
