Choctaws earn 13AAA individual honors

Six Dyer County Choctaw baseball players received individual honors from District 13AAA following the district championship game last week. Choctaw players honored were (from left) John Floyd (All-Academic), Zach Epperson (All-Academic, All-District), Gunner Carmack (All-Tournament), Cayden Stafford (All-Academic Most Valuable Player, All-District), JD McCord (All-District) and Cameron Gordon (All-Tournament).

DFD holds behavioral health training at Lannom Center

On Wednesday, May 8, from 8 a.m. until noon, the Dyersburg Fire Department, along with the Firefighter Behavioral Health Alliance, held a behavioral health training event for area volunteer and career first responders at the Lannom Center. The theme for the training was ‘Saving Those Who Save Others’, which was led by instructor Jennifer Cramer. Those in attendance experienced an in-depth firefighter/ EMT workshop dedicated to educating participants on the awareness of stress anxiety, PTSD, addictions, depression, anger and addressed suicide and retirement. DFD applied for a grant to bring the training course to Dyersburg. Speaking of the training, Dyersburg Fire Chief Brett Sipes stated, ‘We are thankful for the opportunity this valuable grant provided to our department. Suicide and PTSD are prevalent issues in the fire service today. Our department strives to be proactive in assisting our personnel with problems that may arise.’

DHS seniors offered over $8M in scholarships, celebrate annual Awards Day

2019 Dyer County Relay for Life raises $65,000

Held for the first time in Sorghum Valley, the 2019 Dyer County Relay for Life was a huge success, raising approximately $65,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Lady Choctaws answer Arlington with two in seventh for win

After taking the lead with a five-run first inning, the Lady Choctaws almost saw their chances of a third straight trip to the TSSAA Class AAA State Tournament slip away after Arlington scored five times in the bottom of the sixth before Dyer County scored twice in the top of the seventh grab the lead and hold on for the 7-6 win over the Lady Tigers in the Region 7AAA Semifinals on Monday night at Arlington.

Lady Trojans’ run ends with loss to Lexington in region semifinals

Dyersburg’s softball team saw its goal for a fourth straight TSSAA Class AA State Tournament bid come to an end on Monday night as the Lady Trojans fell to the Lady Tigers in Lexington, 10-0, in the Region 7AA Semifinal in five innings.

Bobcat bats end Dyersburg season with region semifinal loss

In the postseason, it can be about who gets hot at the right time as Dyersburg played well in the District 13AA Tournament to reach Monday’s Region 7AA Semifinal before running into an even hotter McNairy Central team who defeated the Trojans 14-0 as the Bobcats’ won their ninth in a row.

CLB discusses upcoming downtown park project; OKs creation of Municipal Solid Waste Planning Region

The Dyer County Legislative Body convened Monday afternoon to discuss items on the agenda including a donation made by Caterpillar for a downtown pocket park and a resolution dissolving the Crockett, Dyer and Gibson Counties Municipal Solid Waste Planning Region.
