Now that the end of the spring sports season - as well as the TSSAA’s on-the-field sports calendar - has come and gone a little over a week ago, it’s time to take stock in what we saw this past spring. Needless to say, you’d have to consider the Dyer County softball team as well as Dyersburg soccer Trojans as the big winners this past season...

Full circle: DC, DHS players pass on knowledge at camps they once attended

Fresh off of both their high school seasons earlier in May, Dyersburg and Dyer County high school baseball programs hosted youth skills camps earlier this week as each had a good turnout for three days of fun, learning and baseball at Tom Mathis Field and Dyer County High School respectively.

Ayers to helm DMS girls, Ahmad takes over Trojans

The next few months just got a bit busier for Dyersburg girls basketball coach Joel Ayers as the Lady Trojan skipper will pull double duty as he has been tapped to take over the Dyersburg Middle School girls program as well after former head coach Porche McClerking stepped down recently.

Junior Auxiliary partners with Buff City Soap for fundraiser

Recently, JA Auxiliary of Dyer County recently partnered with Buff City Soap for a fundraising event. Proceeds from the event will go toward activities and charitable events to help serve the Dyer County community. ‘Junior Auxiliary of Dyer County loves joining with local businesses to raise money we can put right back into our community. Thank you to Buff City Soap for hosting a fundraiser night for JA and helping us make Dyer County an even better place,’ said JA spokeswoman Jenny Wales.

FirstCNB makes $7500 donation to Dyer County YMCA

First Citizens National Bank recently made a donation to the YMCA of Dyer County in the amount of $7500. The funds will go toward YMCA programs, which promote fitness and well being within the community. Donations such as this make it possible for the YMCA to offer scholarship opportunities to ensure everyone in the community is able to participate in available YMCA programs. Dyersburg Rotary holds annual chicken barbecue sale

On Friday, May 31, members of the Dyersburg Rotary Club held their annual chicken barbecue sale at Okeena Park in Dyersburg. The fundraising event has been an annual tradition, dating back to 1982. Early Friday morning, half chickens were slow-cooked and the finished products were available for pickup from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Each chicken half was sold for $6, and all proceeds from the event will go toward funding local and international charities.

Forrest St. shooting leaves one injured, suspect in custody

On Friday, May 31, at approximately 7:15 p.m., Dyersburg Police officers responded to the 2100 block of Forrest Street in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a 16-year-old victim, who had been shot in the arm.
