DPD holds community changers cookout at activity center

On Thursday, July 11, the Dyersburg Police Department held their third community changers cookout of the year at the Dyersburg Activity Center. A large number of community members attended the event, where they were treated to free hot dogs, drinks and chips, an inflatable water slide, and music. DPD has coordinated several community cookouts this summer with previous events being held in Bruce and Future City.

Bond set at $1 million for alleged murderer

On Friday morning, Demarius Watson, 22, of Dyersburg was arraigned at the Dyer County Justice Complex on a charge of first-degree murder, which occurred on Sunday, July 7. Dyersburg City Court Judge Dean Dedmon issued Watson’s bond at $1 million. Dyersburg Police detectives arrested Watson on Thursday for allegedly murdering his uncle, 70-year-old Johnnie Watson on Sunday, July 7 on Harrell Ave. He is scheduled for a court appearance on Monday, July 29 at 4 p.m.

Accused road rage shooter case bound over to Grand Jury, bond increased to $750K

On Friday, July 12, a preliminary hearing was held for Roderick Turner, 27, of Dyersburg, who has been in custody on charges of felon in possession of a firearm, 5 counts of aggravated assault, and 5 counts of reckless endangerment. Following the hearing, City Court Judge Dean Dedmon bound the case over to the Dyer County Grand Jury and increased Turner’s bond from $450,000, set on June 7, to $750,000.
