County school board approves lighting bid, state 401K resolution

The Dyer County Board of Education convened Tuesday night for its monthly meeting with items on the agenda including a bid for lighting at the Dyer County High School tennis court, the purchase of passenger buses, and a proposal from the State of Tennessee regarding Dyer County Schools’ 401K.

Chamber to host Mayors Coffee event Monday

On Monday, August 12, at 7 a.m., the Dyersburg-Dyer County Chamber of Commerce will host a Mayors Coffee at the Lannom Center, located 2000 Commerce Ave. The event is free to the public. Mayors will provide a brief and informal update on each community with audience questions at the end of the program. Complimentary coffee will be served at 7 a.m., with discussions beginning at 7:30 a.m.

745 Memorial Cookout for Clint Wallace held Friday

The 745 Memorial Benefit Cookout held in memory of late K9 deputy Clint Wallace was held on Friday, August 9, from 11-1 p.m., at the old Dyer County Jail. The event was considered a great success, despite rainy weather conditions. Wallace, who was killed in an automobile accident on August 9 of 2018, served as a K9 officer of the Dyer County Sheriff’s Department from 2011-2018. He was a beloved member of the community. All donations from the event will benefit the Dyer County Sheriff K9 Unit.

City BZA OKs two variances at meeting

On Thursday, August 8, at 9 a.m., the City of Dyersburg Board of Zoning Appeals [BZA] convened to hear two items of business – a rear setback variance for a canopy at 2640 Lake Road and a sign ordinance variance at 602 Highway 51 Bypass.

Attempted murder charge dropped, assault charges bound over for Dyersburg man

William Keith Jernigan, Jr., 32, of Dyersburg appeared before Dyersburg City Court Judge Dean Dedmon Friday morning for a preliminary hearing on multiple charges including attempted first-degree murder, 2 counts of aggravated assault, and interfering with an emergency call. As a result of the hearing, Judge Dedmon dismissed the attempted first-degree murder and interfering with an emergency call charges; however the two counts of aggravated assault were bound over to the Dyer County Grand Jury. Jernigan’s bond was also reduced from $250,000 to $20,000.
