E911 Board discusses backup center, design plans for new Dyersburg 911 center

On Tuesday, September 24, the Dyer County E911 Board convened at the Newbern safe room to discuss items on the agenda including construction on the backup center at Dyersburg High School and plans to design a Dyersburg 911 dispatch facility capable of withstanding an F5 tornado.

DHS placed on lockdown following report of threat

Dyersburg High School was placed on lockdown Wednesday morning, September 25, as law enforcement officers of DPD, the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office, and THP arrived on site in response to a reported threat. Alerted of the lockdown, numerous parents began lining the shoulder of Hwy. 51 Bypass and the parking lots of surrounding businesses while awaiting further news.

Candidates announced for State Rep race

Bob Kirk (right) hands in his petition for the District 77 state representative race to Dyer County Election Commission director Anita Fowlkes (left) prior to Thursday’s petition deadline. Along with Kirk, Republican candidates include Rusty Grills, Vanedda Webb, and current interim District 77 State Rep. Casey Hood. Michael Smith is running as a democratic candidate, while Ronnie Henley, Billy Jones, and Max Smith are listed as Independents. Independent candidates will not appear on the primary ballot in November, however, they will be included on the December election ballot. All of the aforementioned candidates had their petitions certified in all three District 77 counties – Dyer, Lake, and Obion. The primary election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 5, with the early voting period to occur Oct. 16-31. The General Election is set for Dec. 19 with the early voting period lasting between Nov. 30 – Dec. 14.
