DMS boys advance to Charles Cowles title game

In addition to high school girls and boys action during the three-day Charles Cowles Classic at Dyersburg High School, four middle schools were vying for tournament championship hardware and the Dyersburg Middle School boys made sure they would be one of the two in the finals as the Trojans handed Lake County a 46-30 defeat on Thursday night in the first day of the Classic.

On the first night of the third Charles Cowles Classic, the Trojans put out an effort which would have made the namesake proud as Dyersburg (7-2) handed Baldwyn, Miss. a 66-40 defeat on Thursday night at Dyersburg High School.

Grills wins special election in District 77 State Rep. race

On Thursday evening, shortly after the polls closed at 7 p.m., the unofficial results of the special general election for the District 77 State Representative seat began to become available. After the ballots were tallied within the district, consisting of Dyer and Lake counties, as well as a portion of Obion County, Rusty Grills led all candidates earning a total of 3,343 votes within the district (85.11 percent).

Bonds set at $400k for couple charged with aggravated child abuse

On Friday morning, December 20, Jeremiah Ring, 42, and Heather Beck, 32, of Dyersburg, formerly of Fresno, California, appeared before Dyersburg City Court Judge Dean Dedmon on charges of felony aggravated child abuse and neglect. As a result of Friday’s appearance, Judge Dedmon issued both Ring and Beck bonds of $400,000.
