On the weekend before Christmas, both Dyer County basketball teams had a busy two-day stretch as both the Lady Choctaws and Choctaws earned a split in classic action heading into the holiday break. The Lady Choctaws (11-1) earned a split in the B4 Christmas State Farm Classic at Central High School in Columbia as Dyer County defeated Smyrna on Friday night, 75-32 before suffering their first defeat of the season the following night, dropping a 75-69 decision to Maplewood on Saturday evening in Columbia.. ...

Dyersburg Breakfast Rotary celebrates successful Christmas for Kids event

On Thursday evening, December 19, the Dyersburg Breakfast Rotary Club held the organization’s annual Christmas for Kids event at the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church of Dyersburg. Teaming with both Dyersburg and Dyer County school systems, Breakfast Rotary provided an evening of Christmas magic for 39 local families consisting of 150 children.

Local man set $100k bond for weapon, drug possession

Willie Locust, 63, of Dyersburg appeared in Dyersburg City Court Monday afternoon, Dec. 23, on 11 charges including possession of schedule II (cocaine, meth, methadone) with intent to sell, possession of schedule IV (Xanax) with intent to sell, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm during commission of a dangerous felony, possession of prohibited weapons, possession of drug paraphernalia, simple possession of marijuana, and simple possession of schedule II (naloxone, hydrocodone). Dyersburg City Court Judge Dean Dedmon set Locust’s bond at $100,000 and scheduled a preliminary hearing on Friday, January 17 at 9 a.m.

Dyersburg man’s bond set at $40k for agg. assault, possession of handgun

On Monday afternoon, Dec. 23, Franklin Montel Mckee, 46, of Dyersburg, appeared before Dyersburg City Court Judge Dean Dedmon on charges of felon in possession of a handgun and aggravated assault. As a result of Monday’s court appearance, Mckee’s bond was set at $40,000 by Judge Dedmon.
