New canine certified for Dyersburg Police

The Dyersburg Police Department recently welcomed a new canine, Rex, to the force. Rex received his certification in narcotics last week and is partnered with his handler Officer Brandon Haynes, who has been in law enforcement since 2009 and with DPD since 2017.

Second jail escapee apprehended

At approximately 11:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, the Dyer County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the arrest of Antoine Lakeith Thomas. Thomas was one of three inmates who escaped from the Dyer County Jail early Sunday morning, Aug. 30.

Dyer County COVID-19 update for September 1

With the release of the Tennessee Department of Health’s (TDH) daily COVID-19 update on Tuesday, the department reported Dyer County as having 975 total COVID-19 cases, which contains confirmed and probable cases, as well as 423 active cases and 542 recoveries. The total number of deaths in the county due to the virus remained at 10.
