Choctaws roll to win over West Creek, 49-20

Hosting West Creek on Thursday at Newbern in a contest originally scheduled to be played on Friday, Dyer County celebrated Homecoming with a convincing, 49-20 win over the visiting Coyotes. With the victory, the Choctaws secured a spot in the TSSAA state playoffs for the fourth straight season.

Dyer County COVID-19 update for October 23

With the release of the Tennessee Department of Health’s (TDH) daily COVID-19 update on Friday, the department reported Dyer County as having a total of 2,163 COVID-19 cases, which consist of confirmed and probable cases. Additionally, the TDH said that Dyer County had 366 active cases with 1,768 recoveries/inactive cases.

DA’s office receives grant, adds DUI prosecutor, coordinator to staff

The District Attorney’s Office, serving the 29th District in Dyer and Lake counties, has added two members to the staff to focus solely on prosecuting DUIs. The additions come as part of a federal grant the office received in October of 2020.

Local woman designs Dyer County-inspired Christmas ornament for governor’s tree

Local artist Patty Hampton was recently tasked by the administration at the Tennessee Governor’s Mansion to create a Dyer County-themed Christmas ornament. The ornament, which features landmarks and special events based in the county, is hand-painted by Hampton and will be displayed on a Christmas tree inside the governor’s mansion.

Dyersburg dominates Liberty in non-region finale

Dyersburg (4-2, 1-1) bounced back from its region loss to Ripley last week, defeating Liberty in the team’s final regular season home game while celebrating Homecoming 2020 with a 43-6 win over the Crusaders (0-8, 0-4) on Friday night at J.C. Sawyers Stadium.
